Study of taconite miners looks for asbestos mesothelioma connection

Back in 2007, some years after dozens of Iron-Range-area Minnesota miners who worked in a taconite mine died of mesothelioma, an investigation was begun to find out exactly what about the taconite mining process is causing these deaths. Because medical science knows that asbestos exposure is the primary cause of mesothelioma, the fact that information about miners’ deaths from mesothelioma was withheld—and workers were never advised of the risk of having asbestos or other fibers in the material
